Round 4 - Lithgow

posted 20th May 2007 Fast and Furious, Lithgow!

Nothing short of astounding was the racing at Lithgow for Round 4 of the AKA Endurance Racing Championship. At the end of 5 hours of racing the top 12 karts were just over 3 minutes apart with gaps of 5 seconds, 23 seconds, 28 seconds,3 seconds, 5 seconds and 37 seconds amongst them!

photThe driving was clean, fast and without incident. Some of the older karts were the stand outs. The turn of speed teams likeGhetto,Ya Gotta Wanna, Dynamite and Streamline showed was simply outstanding.Qualifying saw a run down, but extremely fast BRM grab top spot. Two tenths of a second behind was Intrepid who always bring the goods. The next five karts (Streamline, Road PHOTORunner,Enforcer,Ya Gotta Wanna and Team XLR8) were covered by a mere 1/10th of a second. The following seven teams were also covered by 1/10th and still only half a second behind the leaders. This would set the scene for the weekends racing!

Well done to Ya Gotta Wanna, for taking out B Grade qualifying and to Sideways (B2) for a hot qualifying result within the top 10.

The first half of the race was close amongst several groups. The front pack had it’s usual suspects along with some others worth noting. Ghetto hadn’t been so fast and competitive, ever! They were on fire!

Streamline looked good as did TDF. Centor, Kinetic and Buildline holding their own behind the lead group.

Dynamite were again screaming in their ‘crazy kart’ and Road Runner were back on the pace. Intrepid were dominant until they were again struck with bad luck losing 3 laps replacing a faulty spark plug cap. Enforcer kept it together throughout the race and along with Fourplay were trying to challenge Intrepid for the lead.

PHOTOAt the end of a hard days racing Four Play would end up victorious with a flying Streamline only 36 seconds behind in 2nd. Enforcer always in a good position when it holds together coming in 3rd.

Intrepid after a lengthy pit stop for repairs coming back to 4th only 2.7 seconds behind Enforcer.

PHOTORoad Runner, Kinetic Buildline and Centro King of Parts followed. Dynamite rewarded for their pure speed with 6th outright and 1st in B grade. Ghetto with one of the best performances we’ve seen in 2nd. Ya Gotta Wanna deserve a mention coming 3rd in B grade and importantly smoking every other team for the best lap of the race. Amazing effort in a ten year old Bowman!! Horse Power Racing too took out B2 Grade against Sideways Racing who were fast early in the race.

The June Long Weekend sees the Series travel to Ipswich in QLD, then back to Eastern Creek in July. For those who would like to join us for a race please feel free to call Justin on 0417 330229.
