Round 9 - Newcastle
posted 29th November 2007 TEKA Grand Finale stops to Remember!
It was the 11th day of the 11th month and TEKA stopped mid race and lined up along the straight to pay their respects for those who died in war for our country.
TEKA with the efforts of Cameron McDonald from Allied and the committee managed to raise awareness and $1500 for the Breast Cancer Foundation.
A job well done! As far as the racing goes, there was a most fitting finish to the wildest year of Endurance Racing yet!
The top three karts in the championship qualified in the top three spots (reverse order), & in B grade the consistency of the leaders (GP Racing) would be tested against the entertaining Dynamite (in 2nd position) only six points behind.
Intrepid showed the pace they’re known for to lead the first half of the race before a broken muffler ruined any hope of stealing a championship (from only several points back in 3rd). Fourplay, 2nd in the championship only 7 points behind the leaders couldn’t have done anymore in the interest of winning a Championship, they won the race! The only problem for them was that the ultra consistent Road Runner Racing who were first in the Championship would finish 2nd & hold enough points to take the win for 08 by only 3 points!
The first five karts were only 42 seconds apart after six hours racing. Mariners finished only nine seconds behind Fourplay coming in 3rd, and RAW trailing by one second in 4th, and EKA 5th another sixteen seconds behind in 5th.
The B grade Championship was also alive, with Dynamite (2nd) needing to finish 5 spots ahead of GP Racing (1st) to take the Championship away from one of the most improved teams. After a close race they managed a mere one position short allowing GP Racing to take the B Grade Championship win with Able Door Services taking out 3rd in their first year.
With 3 points separating the winners & runners in A Grade and 1 point in B Grade it’s been one heck of a ride!
Congratulations & thankyou to all those involved.
TEKA’s ‘08’ calendar will be the best yet & is featured in this issue. For any details on this infectious category of go kart racing call Justin Sydenham on 0417 330229.
